Hello there!

Last thursday, I had a little action for the first time with someone I met in Grindr (I know, bad decision), the thing is, we had deep kissing, which I know is not risk at all, even though I brushed my teeth like 20 minutes before. He also rubbed his penis on my anus, with NO penetration at all, something I know isn't risky either. But the thing is, at some point, we were both on our knees kissing and our penises rubbed each other. I stopped when i became conscious about this, then he grabbed my penis and rubbed our penises heads with each other, and I inmediately stopped and told him to stop doing it (THIS IS WHAT SCARES ME). I'm scared I could have contracted HIV, I already talked to a friend who is on 5th year of medicine school, and he said there is no risk at all. But I want to know your opinion...please help me! Thank you!

Hi there!

Thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with your HIV Related questions and concerns. We are happy to help!

I understand you're concerned about the risk level of the activity you engaged in. Let me see if I can clear that up for you.

Rubbing penis heads heads together would be considered a No Risk. This is because there is no direct access to the blood stream, and any virus in the bodily fluids would be exposed to air which renders the virus unable to be passed on.

To make things more clear: I'm attaching the transmission equation for HIV here which makes it very clear what 3 components are all needed to even present a risk of HIV being Transmitted:

HIV TRANSMISSION EQUATION

BODY FLUID
+
ACTIVITY
+
DIRECT ACCESS TO BLOODSTREAM
---------- -------- ----------------------------
• blood (including menstrual) • unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse • vagina
• semen • sharing needles • anus
• pre-cum • mother to child (in specific cases) • urethra in the penis
• rectal secretions • open cuts and sores (in theory)
• vaginal fluids • other mucosal membranes
• breast milk • points of needle injection
Hope this helped!

Sincerely,

Christina
