Hi there,

a question for myself and probably for other people since i did not find anything similar. Is 1-day fever related to HIV? I had some activities of minor HIV risk (receive and give oral sex only unprotected to a woman of unknown status - i am male) and all I get on symptoms is one day chills, one day fever, no sweat during the night, no skin rash, no swollen lymph nodes. Sounds like HIV symptoms to you? I know i am at low risk because of giving oral sex, but hearing these symptoms like 1 month after, what would your first reaction be?

Thanks guys. Your job is really precious. Keep it up.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting AIDS Vancouver. I see you have been reading through our posts, I am happy to address your specific question.

In terms of your symptoms the issue with using symptoms to diagnose HIV is that many people living with HIV show no symptoms, and many viral infections such as the flu can lead to similar symptoms. For that reason AIDS Vancouver does not offer opinions on symptoms. We recommend if you are feeling unwell to visit your healthcare practitioner for assessment and follow-up. The only way to know your HIV status for sure is to be tested. If you would like to be tested I can provide you with a [link](https://gettested.cdc.gov/) to find testing sites.

Your risk assessment is accurate, this was a low risk encounter and it is up to you whether you would like to be tested. We do recommend regular testing for sexually active individuals.

It sounds like your symptoms have gone away, I hope that you remain in good health and that this response has addressed your question.

Best regards,

Alex
