Hello. Can I know the risk of safety pin prick? I was pricked by a pin like sharp metal at my work place. I m so worried if it punctured someone else 4 hour before me and he is hiv positive. What is my risk level? Do u recommend me testing?

Hello and thanks for your question. In the situation you described there is no risk of acquiring HIV. Even if someone else had been pricked by the same sharp object 4 hours earlier, HIV does not live once it is exposed to the air, so any blood that may have been on the sharp object posed no risk of HIV transmission to you or anyone.

You do not require testing for HIV.

All the best,

Marnelle
