My cousin does drugs and sleeps around. My daughter fell and scraped her knee my cousin has a open cold sore on her mouth and kissed my daughters wound. Is it possible to get hiv that way?

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline forum.

I understand that you are concerned about a possible HIV exposure. The wound on your daughter's knee was minor and was kissed by a person who you do not know the status of. Given current knowledge, HIV is not transmitted through contact through kissing minor wounds. The cold sore on the lip does not change this because this does not lead to direct contact with your daughter's blood stream.
A resource that is helpful when learning about how HIV is transmitted is attached to this post here: [http://helpline.aidsvancouver.org/question/risk-assessment-chart ](http://helpline.aidsvancouver.org/question/risk-assessment-chart)
