Hi there, thanks for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline,

You actually have a common question and did the right thing by contacting us with your concern .

There is no risk associated with sharing eyeliner with your who friend who may be HIV positive. There are three activities in which HIV can be transmitted. Those three activities are:
1. unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse
2. Sharing needles
3. Mother to child transmission during birth

I suggest taking a lot at this HIV transmission equation chart! It clearly describes what body fluids, activities, and entries are required in order to acquire HIV:

HIV TRANSMISSION EQUATION

BODY FLUID
+
ACTIVITY
+
DIRECT ACCESS TO BLOODSTREAM
---------- -------- ----------------------------
• blood (including menstrual) • unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse • vagina
• semen • sharing needles • anus
• pre-cum • mother to child (in specific cases) • urethra in the penis
• rectal secretions • open cuts and sores (in theory)
• vaginal fluids • other mucosal membranes
• breast milk • points of needle injection

Feel free to visit our website which has tons of information about HIV and AIDS, including transmission. I hope I was able to alleviate some discomfort you are having.
