Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about a sore throat in reference to Acute Retroviral Syndrome (ARS). From the information given, a risk of HIV transmission could not be determined due to lack of activity information where HIV could be acquired.
A symptom of sore throat is not a definitive indicator that someone has been infected with HIV(1). HIV symptoms mirror other viral infections or can be explained by other things, therefore having an HIV test is the only option to confirm the acquisition of HIV (1).

Recommendation: In order to evaluate potential risk please submit another post with an event or activity that may have lead to the sore throat symptom of ARS.

Regards,

AIDS Vancouver Helpline/Online, Danielle
