Please answer because I am very worried
Today I have squeezed acne and bleeding
What I care about is a moment later I see my hand has a big bloody stain.
If the blood stain is of another person and when it is fresh, it comes into contact with blood when I squeeze the acne, I am at risk or no.
thanks you

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about your risk of acquiring HIV after squeezing some ache and then noticing a blood stain from an unknown source on your hand. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be No Risk (transmission of HIV is not possible in the given scenario).

The scenario mentioned above does not meet the three components of the transmission equation(1). It does not satisfy the equation because:

* HIV does not survive long outside the human body (such as on surfaces), and it cannot reproduce outside a human host(2).

* There must be direct access for HIV to enter the bloodstream.

This means that any blood on your hand at the time you squeezed the ache, or afterwards, would have been outside of the body and exposed to environmental conditions. Remember from above that HIV does not survive long outside of the human body and cannot reproduce outside of a human host. As for direct access to your bloodstream, we can liken a squeezed acne spot to that of a "superficial cut". A superficial cut or skin wound (a squeezed acne spot) simply is not deep enough to provide HIV a direct route to access your bloodstream.

Recommendation: No need for HIV test with the scenario provided, please consult your physician for any other health related questions.

Regards,
AIDS Vancouver Helpline/Online, Hilary
