There are no clinically defined symptoms for HIV. This means that although some may experience flu like symptoms between 2-3 weeks post exposure, many of those exposed to HIV do not experience any symptoms. The flu like symptoms are physical in nature and can last from 8-10 days; but again, these symptoms are not consistent enough to be considered clinically defined symptoms of HIV.

The symptoms you are experiencing are not related to HIV as they are occurring far beyond the period of time that they would usually present themselves if you were exposed to HIV. The World Health Organization recommends that all HIV tests are conclusive at 3 months post potential exposure. Since you took both the rapid test at 99 days and then the ELISA test at 181 days, both tests are considered a conclusive representation of your HIV negative status.

I would like to refer you to your health care practitioner as the symptoms you are experiencing are not related to HIV and they may be able to provide you with more information to further put your mind at ease. You can also look through our past forum postings regarding HIV tests to further put your mind at ease that you are not HIV positive.

I hope to have addressed your concerns.
