Hi there and thanks for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline as a source for HIV/AIDS related information.

The activity you describe is consistent with giving oral sex, which is considered a low risk. A low risk means that there have been a few reports of HIV being transferred by this activity.

There is a much higher risk of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's) from the activity you describe.

I would encourage you to visit a clinic and ask for a full panel testing fore all STIs, including HIV.

The other thing I would encourage you to do is to sit down with your girlfriend to discuss her past sexual history, including any high risk activities. As I don't know how long you have been together, but if it is a long-term relationship, you would most likely know her HIV status.

I trust I have addressed your concerns however, should further information be required, feel free to contact us again.

In good health,

Jonathan, AIDS Vancouver Helpline Volunteer
