I recently had my annual check up & was tested for HIV my results came back active .
my doctor sent them back then they came back negative.
they told me not to worry about it due to the last results where negative. But for my safety to get tested again in 6 months .
i am freaking out should i go get tested again for a second opinion.

Hi there, and thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for you HIV/AIDS related health information.

It sounds like you are concerned about the reliability of your test results.

I do not know what type of tests you had, but what I can tell you is that a second test is standard practice as a confirmatory test when the first comes back as reactive.

You say that your second test came back negative. This is good!

The best advice I can give is for you to follow your doctors instructions and go back in 6 months for another test.

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.

Hilary
