Hi there, thanks for contacting us with your questions! We're happy to help!

From what I understand, you're concerned because you have to touch a surface where other people's blood is present. Additionally, you noted that they clean it with a sort of hand-rub cleaner, perhaps hand sanitizer.

To answer your question, regardless of the specifics of this situation, there is No Risk of HIV transmission. The reason for this is that HIV is a delicate virus that cannot survive outside of the body. What this means is that when bodily fluids leave the body and are exposed to the general environment, they become damaged and inactivated, and can no longer be passed on. This means that any blood on the surface of the glass wouldn't be a risk to you.

Additionally, the virus wouldn't have anywhere to enter the bloodstream, since in order to do so,it needs direct access. The only things that provide this direct access are mucous membranes such as the ones found in the vagina, anus, and urethra, and very large wounds that are either gushing blood or require immediate medical attention such as stitches.

The cleaning solution you describe also helps to provide protection, since it would help to inactivate the virus, but even without this, there would be no risk.

I hope this helped! please visit this website for more info on how HIV is transmitted: http://www.avert.org/hiv-transmission-prevention/how-you-get-hiv

Sincerely,

Christina
