So I took a 4th gen HIV test at 51 days which is 7 weeks. and I received a negative, the Hotline I call told me that this test is 95% accurate at 28 days and only increases the closer to 3 months I get and recommend I take another at 3 months. I feel confident about my test at 3 months being negative as well. should I be worried? Should I be fearful or should I try and relax and go about my routine as norm?

Hi there! Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Online Helpline for your HIV related concerns and questions.

I understand you're wondering whether you need to worry about your test results. Hopefully this information will be able to help you.

You had the 4th generation test, which most HIV specialists consider conclusive at 6 weeks. However, here at AIDS Vancouver we still go by the BC CDC Guidelines which state that all tests are conclusive at 3 months, and recommend getting tested at 3 months for the safest measure. You can refer to those [HERE](http://www.bccdc.ca/NR/rdonlyres/B35EDEBD-98CA-48BB-AB7C-B18A357AC19D/0/HIV_GUIDE_051114.pdf).

However, since your test came back after 6 weeks negative, this is a strong indication of what your test results will be at 12 weeks as well. Worrying is never beneficial, so yes go about your routine as normal!

Hopefully this was able to help you and answered your question!

Sincerely,

Christina
