Hello I went to get tested for STD at this public health Lab, and this nurse who was extremely rude and possibly racist took my blood sample and I wan't paying attention, so after an hour or so I came to a realization that the nurse might have used a contaminated needle or something to infect me HIV or other STD which kinda freaked me out !! I know that I might be paranoid or something and yet here I am looking for answers...What I want to know is what would stop someone from committing something like this?? Is this even possible ? Could the nurse have used an injection syringe to inject and draw my blood at the same time? Can you please bring me back to my senses ! Thank you so much and I appreciate taking the time to answer this question. I know you have other more important questions but this would really put my mind to rest.

Hi there, and thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for your HIV/AIDS related health information. It seems your quite concerned about the possibility of HIV transmitting from a contaminated needle at a clinic. We're happy to answer this question for you.

Your question seems to surround the possibility of a nurse using a needle containing blood to do draw blood from you during a test. We really can't say for sure if this nurse did this, but what we can say is it is the job of healthcare providers to provide quality care to their patients. HIV could transmit this way, but we will say that it sounds like it is extremely unlikely that the nurse used a previously used needle for your test, no matter how rude she seemed to you. Why do you assume that because she was rude to you, that she'd then try and infect you with HIV? It seems like a pretty big leap, and you seem to be assuming a lot of things.

Thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with your question. We hope this has made you feel a bit better.
