Hello and thanks for contacting AIDS Vancouver with your question.

It seems you are concerned that the symptoms you are having are HIV related after engaging in unprotected sex activity. We are glad to provide some information.

Engaging in unprotected sex is regarded as a High risk activity. This activity has repeatedly been associated with HIV transmission. We do not determine the HIV status of an individual using symptoms. This is because some symptoms can be caused by other viral infections that are not HIV related. Getting an HIV test is the only method one can determine their HIV status and we recommend that you consider getting tested. At Aids Vancouver we encourage people to use HIV testing as a regular health maintenance routine. This means getting tested once or twice a year. This will help to put your mind at rest.

The Aids Vancouver Online forum has postings that are related to your question that you can read for additional information. If you have further questions feel free to contact us again.

Thanks for contacting AIDS Vancouver.
