Dear Manoj, thank you for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline forum.

It sounds like you are distressed about having acquired HIV from your sexual experience 1 year and 3 months ago. You took a great step for your health by consulting your doctor and getting tested for HIV.

1. You said you received the NAAT (PCR RNA & DNA) test and antibody test for HIV and the results were negative. According to the official HIV testing guidelines from the BC CDC, these tests are conclusive at three months after possible exposure. All HIV tests are conclusive, meaning that they are most likely accurate at 3 months post exposure. Retesting is suggested after 12 weeks post exposure (3 months).

Further tests do not need to be done if you have not been involved in any exposures since the last time (1 year and 3 months ago).

2. We here at AIDS Vancouver only have general information regarding HIV and AIDS., So the best thing to do is partner up with your doctor and ask them if which test is best for testing the pus. I can let you know that getting tested for HIV, which you have done, is the best way to know if you have acquired HIV. We do not go by symptoms of HIV.

You can also take a look at this link which has information about the BC CDC guidelines for HIV testing. [http://www.bccdc.ca/dis-cond/a-z/_h/HIVAIDS/overview/default.htm#heading5 ](http://www.bccdc.ca/dis-cond/a-z/_h/HIVAIDS/overview/default.htm#heading5)

I hope I was able to help answer your questions. If you live in the BC area and have further questions please feel free to call our helpline. You can also visit our website for more information on HIV tests.
