Hello,

If i was rubbing my shaft of my penis that was covered with a condom on a ladies vagina was it protected from hiv? No penetrative sex happened.

Also if the vaginal fluids came in contact with my testicles can i be at risk for hiv?

I get tested regularly for all sti's.

Do i need to test specifically for this occasion? Or is my 6 month test okay?

I did not see any sores on myself or on her.

Hello and thank you for using AIDS Vancouver as your primary source of information about HIV/AIDS issues.

To begin, I would like to commend you for using a condom during your sexual experience. You are at no risk of contracting HIV, even if vaginal fluids came in contact with your testicles during the time you were rubbing the shaft of your covered penis on your partner's vagina. The reason for this is that HIV is inhibited upon exposure to air (oxygen), and cannot live on the surface of your skin. Continue to protect yourself by using condoms in the future!

You should know that guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) inform us that all HIV test results are conclusive 12 weeks after the sexual experience that an individual is being tested for. Many HIV specialists consider the results of HIV tests administered as early as 6 weeks after the sexual experience a strong indication of an individual's status. In the situation you have described, an HIV test is not necessary. Please keep in mind it is recommended that all sexually active individuals be tested for HIV and all other STIs consistently as part of your overall health maintenance regime.

I trust I have answered your questions sufficiently. Feel free to write back to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline, or visit our website, http://www.aidsvancouver.org for more information.

Sincerely,

Marta
