Hi I live with house mates and i went to bathroom with out wearing shoes and didn't really think much about it. I then welt wetness on my foot and realized i had stepped on wet drop of blood EW. I cleaned my foot and searched for cuts and I didn't really find any . my room mate had gone to the bathroom 5 minutes before I went. this is most likely hers. am I at risk for hiv?

Hello There,

Thank you for posting on the AIDS Vancouver Helpline Forum.

HIV is a weak virus and dies upon exposure to air, therefore, even if the blood on the floor was HIV infected, HIV would not have been active for transmission.

Secondly, HIV needs to have direct access into your bloodstream. There was no entry of any HIV-borne fluids into your bloodstream. Therefore, the conditions for HIV transmission have not been met in the above scenario you have described.

You are not at risk of HIV infection.
