Hello,

Thank you for contacting AIDS Vancouver, I will try and answer your questions as best I can.

(PCR RNA) NAAT test window period is 2-3 weeks post exposure.. It has a 99.6% accuracy level. All tests are considered conclusive in BC at 3 months.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto immune disorder and is not an immunodeficiency. It would not change the HIV test period window.

There are only 4 situations where your HIV test window period may be affected. They are:

1) A person is on antiviral treatment for Hep C.
2)A person is on treatment for Cancer (Chemotherapy)
3) A person is on P.E.P. treatment for HIV( a test would be affective 3 months post treatment)
4) Other immunodeficiency diseases (most likely Known from birth)

These tests are usually done after the 6 month post exposure period.

The (PCR RNA) NAAT test looks for the genetic material of HIV. So, if an individual has acquired HIV this test may provide an accurate results as soon as 2-3 weeks post-exposure, and at all times following.
