Hi

I have protected sex with a sex worker but i dindnt realize if tthe condom broke somewhere, but i quickly review it and it had the stored semen, and didn´t had a large hole in the receptacle part

I did a test for the detection of HIV in the 6th week of the possible risk . In the laboratory I were told it was 4th generation but the bill and results only spoken of antibodies. The test was made with the technique of immuno assay e Chemiluminscence is this possible?

1) How reliable is the result?

2) I also want to know if the use of anxiolytic can increase the window period because i want to make another test in 6 week and also star to use anxiolytics ?

3) I need another test?

Thank you for everything

Hi there and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Online Helpline.

Protected sex is considered to be a low risk of HIV.

The 4th generation HIV test is a very good, reliable test. The accuracy is considered to be 99.9%.

About 95% of HIV infections are detectable on a test between 4-6 weeks after exposure. All results are considered to be conclusive when a test is taken 12 weeks (3 months) or more following exposure. For the most conclusive results I would recommend that you take another test at 12 weeks.

For more information about HIV you can visit CATIE.ca or the AIDS Vancouver website.

I hope this information helps to answer your questions.
