Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking if your HIV tests were conclusive after 6 weeks.

The window period refers to the amount of time between contracting HIV and when it can be detected by a test (1). The GeneXpert HIV-1 test is a nucleic acid amplification assay with a window period of 2-3 weeks after exposure (2). The HIV Combo test is a 4th generation test with a window period of 4-12 weeks after exposure. It is considered by most specialists to be conclusive at 6 weeks, but for completely conclusive results we recommend re-testing at 12 weeks.

Recommendation: Refer to a health care professional for a HIV test at 12 weeks.
