hi, is it possible to catch hiv from a woman licking my clitoris? She did it for a few minutes...she did not penetrate her tongue in my vagina. Also, is it possible from deep kissing? One of her tooth bleeds from time to time but she was not bleeding at that moment? Is that a risky scenario?

Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. I understand you are worried about your recent oral sex experience, and I will be more than glad to address your concerns and hopefully alleviate your stress.

Receiving oral sex is considered a "negligible risk" activity, meaning that although there is some exchange of bodily fluids, there has never been a documented case of HIV being transmitted by this activity. Giving oral sex on the other hand is a "low risk" activity, meaning that some, although not many cases are documented of this activity leading to HIV transmission. Deep kissing is a "no risk" activity, since it cannot lead to HIV transmission. This is partially due to the presence of an enzyme in our saliva that breaks down the HIV virus and protects us. So, in your case, you are not at risk for acquiring HIV.

Sincerely,

Ali
