Hi there and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Online Helpline.

In Canada there are many precautions taken in a healthcare setting to prevent the spread of illness, including HIV. It is highly unlikely that you would be at risk of acquiring HIV in a healthcare setting in Canada.

At AIDS Vancouver we do not go by symptoms as an indicator of HIV. This is because symptoms can be present for any number of reasons that are not related to HIV, including a cold or the flu. My recommendation would be to visit your doctor if your symptoms persist.

For more information about HIV you can visit CATIE.ca or the AIDS Vancouver website.

I hope this information helps to answer your questions.
